Thor vs Forno (2026): Which Pro-Style Range Should You Buy?

By Marcus Lam, InnovDepot

Thor Kitchen and Forno are two of the most-shopped pro-style appliance brands under luxury prices. Both give you the stainless steel, restaurant look, 6-burner (or bigger) cooktops and big ovens for a fraction of what the high-end names charge. We sell both brands, and a lot of each, so this isn't a "brand A is amazing, brand B is junk" post. It's what we tell customers on the phone when they ask which one to buy.

The short answer:

  • Choose Thor if you want a classic pro-range look, the widest choice of 36" gas models, induction or the Gordon Ramsay line, and a warranty that's clearly spelled out as 2 years of parts and labor.

  • Choose Forno if you want a French-door oven, colour-and-trim options (like black or white with copper), very small (20") or very large (60") sizes, or a big built-in-look refrigerator to go with it.

Build and design

Thor is the classic "pro range" look: heavy stainless, chunky knobs and a straightforward layout. Across the Contemporary (ARG), Professional (LRG/HRG) and Tilt Panel (TRG) series, the design stays fairly consistent, which makes it easy to match a hood, fridge and dishwasher.

Forno takes more design risks. Many of its ranges have French-door ovens, where two side-by-side doors swing open instead of one door dropping down. That's handy in a tight galley kitchen or if you don't want to lean over a hot door. Forno also sells colour editions, like black or white with copper trim, if you want the range to be the statement piece.

Burners and cooking power

Both brands use sealed burners on their gas and dual-fuel ranges. Forno puts the total BTU in its model names. For example, the 36" Capriasca is rated at 120,000 BTU across 6 burners and the 36" Galiano dual fuel at 83,000 BTU. So you can compare Forno models to each other at a glance.

For Thor, compare the per-burner ratings on each product's spec sheet. Don't compare total BTU alone across brands: how the power is split between a big "power burner" and a low simmer burner matters more for everyday cooking than the total.

Ovens

  • Thor: most models have a single convection oven (6.0 cu. ft. on the 36" ARG36, LRG3601U and TRG3601). Several 48" models have a double oven. The Tilt Panel series adds self-clean and air fry.

  • Forno: the French-door oven is Forno's standout. Dual-fuel versions put an electric oven under gas burners, which bakers often prefer for even heat.

Sizes: who covers your kitchen?

If you have a standard 30" or 36" opening, both brands have plenty of choice. The differences show up at the edges:

  • Tiny kitchens: Forno carries a 20" range. Thor starts at 24".

  • Big kitchens: both have 48" and 60" ranges.

  • Induction: both have induction ranges. Thor's are in the X Series.

Refrigerators

This is where our own sales tell a story. Forno's big built-in-look refrigerator combos (like the Custodia 48") are some of our best-selling Forno products, because they give the look of a built-in fridge column at a fraction of the price. Thor's best-seller with us is the 36" TRF3601FD French door refrigerator, which is counter-depth with an ice and water dispenser.

If a large fridge matters as much as the range, look at Forno's refrigerator line. If you want a 36" fridge that matches a Thor range, go with the TRF3601FD.

Warranty and support

Thor: 2 years of parts and labor for home use. Outdoor kitchen products have 2 years on parts only, and commercial use gets 6 months. You can buy extended protection plans.

Forno: Forno advertises a 2-year limited warranty. Retailers describe the details differently, so read the warranty sheet on the product page before you buy. Both brands need you to register the product and keep proof of purchase.

Our advice with either brand: have a qualified installer hook it up (gas and 240V hookups aren't DIY jobs for most people), and register the warranty the week it arrives.

FAQ

Is Thor better than Forno?
Neither is better across the board. Thor is stronger on classic pro styling, 36" gas choice and a clearly documented warranty. Forno is stronger on French-door ovens, colour options and very small or very large sizes.

Are Thor and Forno made in the same place?
Both brands' appliances are made in China. Thor is headquartered in California and Forno in Montreal, and each designs its own products.

Which is cheaper, Thor or Forno?
They're in similar price ranges, and it depends on the model. Compare the specific ranges you're considering; each product page shows the current price with free shipping.

Do Thor and Forno ranges come in propane?
Yes. Most Thor gas ranges come in a separate liquid propane (LP) version: choose LP on the product page. Many Forno gas ranges come with an LP conversion kit, so check the product page, and have your installer do the conversion.

Can I mix a Thor range with a Forno refrigerator?
Yes. Both come in stainless steel. Finishes vary a little between brands, so if a perfect match matters, stick to one brand or buy a package.
