What's the difference between natural gas and LP?

Natural gas (NG) flows from underground utility lines. Propane (LP) comes from a tank. Both burn the same way on your cooktop, but LP has higher pressure and requires a slightly different burner orifice. Most ranges ship factory-configured for natural gas with an LP conversion kit included. The conversion takes a licensed technician 30 minutes. Check with your local utility to confirm which fuel type your home uses.

How many BTUs do I need?

For everyday cooking, 15,000-18,000 BTU burners are plenty. For high-heat cooking (searing, wok work, boiling pasta fast), seek 22,000 BTU power burners. Most ranges offer a mix — one or two high-BTU burners and the rest lower for simmering. Measure your existing cutout and confirm your gas line capacity (most homes have 3/4-inch line, sufficient for 2-3 high-BTU burners simultaneously).

Do gas ranges require a gas line in my home?
